Make a guess. Who are these people? These are the founders of Darüşşafaka. Darüşşafaka Foundation is established in 1863, with the order of Monarch.

The five people shown in the picture with leadership of Yusuf Ziya Paşa established Darüşşafaka, which means “The House of Compassion” in Ottoman language.

In 1873, the Darüşşafaka High School is formed. Darüşşafaka acquired only orphan boys in its asylum for 98 years. In 1971, with the efforts of Fettah Aytaç, the first orphan girls were accepted into school. 1994 was a different year from the others. The historical campus at Fatih / Çarşamba was left and a new campus at Maslak constructed, due to the lack of area and fast-growing technology.
